Replacing a servo drive without the re-commissioning pain
Decide drive-only or the pair. If the motor is healthy, the encoder is undamaged and you know the exact servo family, a drive-only swap reuses the motor and cable. If the failure cooked the encoder, the motor has years on it, or you cannot confirm the encoder type, replace the pair — mismatched encoder protocols between an old motor and a new drive are the single biggest source of dead-in-water servo swaps.
Check the encoder and the battery. Absolute encoders usually hold position with a battery; if the battery died with the drive, the axis will need a home return after the swap, so tell the production team before the weekend, not after. Note the encoder resolution and communication type from the motor nameplate — incremental, absolute, and the fieldbus variant must match the drive generation.
Look for the reason the old drive died. Overload alarms usually trace to mechanical binding, a seized brake or a worn bearing; regeneration overvoltage to fast decel on high-inertia loads without a braking resistor; encoder cable faults to repeated flexing at the drag chain. Replacing the drive without fixing the cause means the new one dies the same way inside a month. We check the fault history with you at quotation — send a photo of the alarm display and the motor nameplate.
Servo selection questions
Should I replace the servo drive alone, or the drive and motor as a pair?
If the motor is healthy and you can confirm the exact family and encoder type, a drive-only swap reuses the motor and encoder cable and is the faster fix. Replace the pair when the encoder may be damaged, the motor is near end of life, or the drive family is being changed — a new drive will not talk to an old motor’s encoder unless the protocol matches exactly. Our kits are priced to make the pair option the safe default.
What usually kills a servo drive?
Four causes cover most field failures: sustained overload from mechanical binding, a sticking brake or worn bearings; overvoltage on deceleration when a high-inertia load has no braking resistor; encoder cable faults from repeated flexing or contamination; and heat — blocked heatsinks and failed fans in dusty plants. If the old drive shows an overload or overvoltage history, fix the mechanical or braking cause before powering the replacement, or it will fail the same way.
Are these original servo parts or compatible replacements?
Every servo kit on this page is a generic aftermarket compatible replacement, NOT an original OEM product. Brand names and model numbers are the property of their owners and are used only to state what each kit replaces. Drives and motors are matched within the kit, inspected before shipment, and carry our 12-month warranty as seller — InverterPLC is an independent supplier, not an authorised distributor of any brand named here.
How long is the lead time, and do you ship to Southeast Asia?
Every unit is procured per order. We confirm the exact lead time at quotation — typically 1 to 3 weeks — and state it in writing before you pay. We ship by DHL / FedEx / UPS express to Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore, and by sea or air freight for consolidated orders.
